It’s just been announced that Mamma Mia!, the musical and romantic comedy based on the songs of ABBA has surprisingly smashed all DVD sales records in the UK. It sold an incredible 1.7 million copies in one day when it was released on Monday and continues to sell in huge quantities in the run-up to Christmas.

I find this staggering because it’s not really the type of film that would appeal to the masses (ie the male population and the female population), but the sales figures clearly don’t lie. Of course it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a great film because the previous record was held by Titanic back in 1998, and we all know that that film was a complete load of tosh.
