Apparitions is a hard-hitting new drama that was recently broadcast on BBC1. It starred Martin Shaw who played a Roman Catholic priest who is drawn into the mysterious world of exorcism after encountering supernatural possession, demonic attacks and satanic births at various points throughout the series.

Apparitions was a top quality series as it was intelligent and thought-provoking one minute and completely horrifying the next. It did a fantastic job of combining religion and horror and was really refreshing because a lot of programs that attempt to be scary just end up looking ridiculous but this one really made you think about religion and whether there actually could be supernatural forces out there that we don’t know about.

Of course as with most programs, there were some parts that were simply too far-fetched and a little over the top, but overall I thought this six part series was pretty good on the whole and certainly worthy of a second series.
