Ray Galton and Alan Simpson are two of Britain’s finest comedy writers and they have written many great comedy shows together including Hancock / Hancock’s Half Hour and Steptoe And Son. However in the late 1970s they produced a series of seven one-off comedy dramas as part of the Comedy Playhouse series on ITV which hardly ever get mentioned.

The hope was that one of these shows would be commissioned as a full comedy series but as it turned out none of the programs were developed further. However there were some cracking episodes in this series, as you would expect with Galton and Simpson behind them, and they included some of the most renowned actors of the time including Leonard Rossiter, Arthur Lowe, Warren Mitchell, Richard Briers and Frances de la Tour.

Anyway you can watch all of this series again thanks to the Galton And Simpson Playhouse - The Complete Series DVD which has just been released this week.
