Hunger DVD
Hunger is a 2008 film that starred Liam Cunningham, Michael Fassbender, Stuart Graham and Brian Milligan. It was also the first film to be directed by the Turner prize-winning artist Steve McQueen (not to be confused with the legendary actor of the same name).
Hunger tells the real-life story of the last six weeks of Bobby Sands, the famous Provisional Irish Republican who went on hunger strike in Maze Prison to make a meaningful political point back in 1981.
The movie features some excellent acting performances, particularly from Fassbender, who plays Bobby Sands. The subject matter makes this film difficult to watch at times because it reflects a dark period in the prolonged Irish conflict, but it does nevertheless give you an insight into the depth of feelings that existed at the time. McQueen does a great job of telling this story without glamorising terrorism or showing bias towards, or sympathising with one side or the other.
Anyway if you didn’t get a chance to watch this enthralling award-winning movie at the cinemas, you can now watch it again because the Hunger DVD is now available to buy.
